Yang Lui’s artbook multiple Gobi Desert Reverie , is based on a re-interpretation of his parents’ fragmented memory of their time spent in the Gobi Desert in the 1980s as Chinese engineering soldiers working on the earliest Qinghai-Tibet railway project. As Chinese engineering soldiers during the 1980s, his parents lived a hard and disciplined life in this remote desert for three years. Belonging to a detachment of signalers, they were part of the railway project and were responsible for improving regional infrastructure, particularly in the field of communications.
